Karlyn Eckman Fine Art
I'm a Minnesota-based artist specializing in oil and watercolor paintings and metal point drawings. Favorite subjects are lakes, rivers and forests in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and around Lake Superior. I'm a studio artist and also paint outdoors (en plein air). I teach drawing and painting in person and via Zoom. I'm also an active member of a larger community of artists in Minnesota including the 2010 Artblok Coop, Northeast Minneapolis Arts Association (NEMAA), Outdoor Painters of Minnesota (OPM), and Northstar Watercolor Society.
CURRENT PROJECTS
This year I'm working on a series of landscapes featuring the tributaries and smaller glacial lakes in the upper St. Croix River watershed. Stop by and say hello if you see me painting along the roadside.
UPCOMING EVENTS
"Meet the Neighbors" takes place on Saturday April 13 2024 from noon to 8pm at Insight Brewery, 2821 E Hennepin Avenue, Minneapolis. This is an opportunity for people living in Southeast Minneapolis to meet the artists working at Artblok (formerly the General Mills Research Laboratories and home to the Betty Crocker kitchens).
I will be offering free monthly classes in silverpoint drawing beginning in late May 2024. All supplies will be provided at no cost for 25 registered participants thanks to a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. Please contact me at eckma001@umn.edu for details and to sign up.
Power of the St. Croix Utility Box Project. As a resident artist at the historic Pine Needles cabin on the St. Croix River I completed about 25 plein air paintings. Two paintings, Greenburg Island and Rower #2, were selected for permanent public art installations in the river towns of Stillwater and Marine on St. Croix, Minnesota. The boxes can be seen here https://stcroixutilitybox.weebly.com
